ES HW if you lost your handout
Materials:
-standard protractor
-rectangular cardboard (12cm x 20cm)
-ruler
-circular cardboard (5cm in radius)
-single hole paper fastener
Procedure:
Using a protractor, divide the circle in 15 degree angles. The lines should meet at the center. The circle represents the earth, its center the north pole. Each line represents half of a meridian. Label each meridian in multiples of 15. Start from 0 or the prime meridian and move eastward (to the right) until you reach 180 degrees. Starting again from the same 0 degrees, move westward (to the left) and label the meridians in multiples of 15 up to 180. The 180 degree meridian is the international dateline. Meridians are either east of west of the prime meridian. Mark W all the time zones to the left of the prime meridian and E all the time zones to the right of the prime meridian.
Draw a broken line between the meridians. The area bounded by two nearby broken lines is a time zone. All places within the same time zone have the same time.

Attach the cardboard circle to the cardboard rectangle with the paper fastener. This way you can turn the circle. Draw parallel lines on the rectangle and label the middle lines. Turn the circle to have the 0 degree meridian directly facing the sun's rays on the rectangle. Label on the rectangle the hour of each zone.

1) Two cars A and B having average speeds of 30 mph and 40 mph respectively, are 280 miles apart. They start moving toward each other at 3:00PM. At what time and where will they meet?
3) Two motorists start traveling toward each other at 4:30 PM from towns 255 miles apart. If their respective average speeds are 40mph and 45 mph, at what time will they meet?
5)At what rate must Richard travel to overtake KC who is traveling at a rate 20 mph slower if Richard starts 2 hours after KC and wishes to overtake KC in 4 hours?
7)Tom traveled a distance of 265 miles. He drove at 40 mph during the first part of the trip and at 35 mph during the remaining part. If he made the trip in 7 hours, how long did he travel at 40 mph?
9)A boat, propelled to move at 25mph in still water, travels 4.2 miles against the river current in the same time it can travel 5.8 miles with the current. Find the speed of the current.
11) Same and Anne can run around a circular mile in 6 and 10 minutes respectively. If they start at the same instant from the same place, in how many minutes will they pass each other if they run around the track (a) in the same direction? (b)in opposite direction?
13)In 5 hours of flying, a passenger plane is helped by a tall-wind of 50 kph. In the succeeding three hours though, it was lowed down by a 50 kph wind traveling in the opposite direction. If the total distance traveled is 2500 km, how fast is the plane?
15)Pearl and Onyx enter the Pisay Fun Run. Pearl runs at 8 mph and Onyx runs at 6 mph. If they start together, how long will it take before pearl is one-fourth mile ahead of Onyx?

2.) A bank teller has some P50 bills and some P200 bills. The teller has five more P200 bills than P50 bills. The total value of the money is P7250. Find the number of P50 bills.
4.) A chasier has a total of 126 bills, made up of fifties and hundreds. The total value of the money is P8400. How many of each kind does she have?
6.) How many kg of chocolates costing P46 per kg may be mixed w/ 6kg of chocolates costing P50 per kg to produce a mix that can be sold for P49 per kg?
8.) There were 11,000 people at the recent UAAP basketball game who paid as total P790,000 in entrance fees. Students paid P30 each and non-students paid P80 each. How many students attended?
10.) How many packs of candy worth P50 per pack must be mixed w/ 60 packs that are worth P40 per pack to get a special Christmas mix to sell for P44 per pack?
MIXTURE:
1.) One alloy contains 80% gold (by weight) and another contains 55% gold. How many grams of each alloy should be combined to make 40g of an alloy that contains 70% gold?
3.) How much water is required to dilute 15 liters of a solution that is 12% dye solution so that a 5% dye solution is obtained?
5.) A gardener has 26kg of a mix of fertilizer and weed killer. If 1kg of the mix is replaced by weed killer the result is a mix that is 5% weed killer. What percent of the original mix was weed killer?
7.) What weight of water must be evaporated from 40lb of a 20% salt solution to produce a 50% solution? All percentages are by weight.
